About 14 miles east of Rockford, or 38 miles west of Elgin, nestled in the Boone County Fairgrounds, is home to Karnival of Karnage Haunted House. In their 17^th season, the Karnival of Karnage crew deliver old-school scares in new and creative ways! By utilizing a cast of young monsters with seemingly unlimited energy, guests are treated to a non-stop, interactive adventure through some of your darkest nightmares.

From the first moments before exiting our vehicle, we were introduced to Dr. Achoo and his pet Raven. After a brief examination, we were led into the attraction and welcomed by the ringmaster to the “freakshow.” After being given our specialized ocular equipment, we journeyed through the twists and turns of the 3D portion of the attraction while the “Klowns” and “Krazies” lurked behind us, beside us, and even inside the walls!

Barely escaping, we were introduced to Karnie Mari, who helped prepare us for the second portion of our journey. This portion of the attraction was closer to a “traditional” attraction with highlights including the orphanage, kitchen, forest, and graveyard. We really enjoyed classic obstacles like the spiderweb hallway as well! But, some of our biggest memories were provided by the amazing, Dr. Rigamortis, and later by Shorty, who challenged us to the creepiest game of ‘hide and seek’ we have played in quite some time. Bravo!

Throughout the attractions, the actors and actresses were primed, hungry, and ready to play! Most had something small to share with us, and some took the interaction further with jokes and fun antidotes. Two of our favorites were Mr. Happy, and the actor in the “drop room” who loves roller coasters. Again: Outstanding work!

Bottom Line: Overall, this was a very enjoyable time, spent with people who LOVE the holiday and being a part of this outstanding attraction. If you are looking for a great time with fun people, who even help donate to extremely noteworthy causes, then take your money -and your spirit- to Karnival of Karnage!
