Roughly 91 miles west of Chicago, in the 5th largest city in the state of Illinois, down a long, dark, and winding road, awaits Hoppers Haunted House. One of the last old-school style attractions in our neck of the woods, Hoppers is truly in the middle of the woods. With very few streetlights helping to illuminate the path the darkness here is dense and real! Just remember to look for the flashing lights from the legendary Hoppers ambulance to help guide your way from the depths of the woods into the mouth of madness.
As we mentioned, Hoppers is one of the last old-school attractions left in the market. 25 years ago, most attractions (like the Jaycees) followed a similar construction style with copious amounts of dark hallways, half-walls, and plenty of things that go bump in the night. While most of the haunted attractions have adopted newer styles, Hoppers serves as a reminder and example of a style that has a proven track record of keeping patrons scratching and clawing for escape.
For us, Hoppers is one of the few places that serves up real fear. It is in a desolate, forested area, which is very dark. AND no, your cell phone may not work. While our brains know that repeat customers help our favorite haunted attractions stay in business, there is always a little twinkle of a thought or question of how long it would take for someone to find our bodies?
The path here whisks guest inside and outside through multiple buildings and areas. Actors here are hungry, ready for their next victim to take a wrong turn in the dark. They are very tuned to their surroundings and understand when and how to attack. The darkness here is abundant, and guests have no idea how many sets of eyes are staring back at them, just licking their chops ready to attack. Though your sense of sight may be removed, make sure to test your hearing before you go. You will definitely want to keep those ears open for the footsteps that are following you in the dark.
Pro Tip: Instead of going first in the group, looking for a new thrill? Try being the last one in the line. We promise, you will never sleep again!
Monsters of Note: The “Scream” actor in the Graveyard!
The Bottom Line: Ready to dive into your own deepest, darkest fears? Hoppers is there for the last 25+ years to serve as the best conduit to unlock this! We are still seeing these creatures lurking in our closets and under our beds! AND make sure you keep your eyes peeled for some new developments in the next two years as the Hoppers offerings are about to EXPLODE!
