Located about 82 miles from Chicago, Twisted Crypt Haunted House resides in Rockford, Illinois. For some, hearing “Rockford” may conjure up images of a farm-based haunted attraction. But, for Twisted Crypt, that couldn’t be farther from the truth. In fact, Twisted Crypt is nestled inside the confines of a very unassuming strip mall! But, as we approached the front of the attraction, we quickly learned we were anything but safe.

With the flashing lights glimmering off of their custom-hearse, we were met by Boris, a creature in the style of Frankenstein’s monster. After several jumps, smiles, groans, and moans, we entered the front door to find a fully adorned near movie-set-quality waiting area. With floor-to-ceiling décor, all illusions of the outside world were instantly shattered. We met the gate-keeper and began our journey!

Our goal at Haunted House Chicago is to tempt you and “wet your whistle.” We never want to give anything away. But, the opening scene for Twisted Crypt literally “sucks you into the story.” We were informed that we, the patrons, were being asked to join their family. Without an opportunity to back out, we were invited into the next room.

Here, we met one of the finest actresses we have ever experienced. With a communication palate consisting of only several vowels, sounds, and a handful of German, “Tilly” set the mood and sized us up. While performing an incredible set/routine, she even managed to separate our group, keep us smiling, and on our guard! Bravo!

This scene set the tone for the rest of the tour, as each scene was just as interactive as the one before it. Actors and actresses were playful, aggressive, and encouraged to keep patrons for as long as possible! Most wanted us to join the family… and one even gave us a tattoo… Free of charge!

Some additional highlights include James in the bedroom, the “pets”, the swamp, and of course, the clowns!

The Bottom Line: Twisted Crypt is definitely one of the most interactive haunted attractions we have ever experienced! Patrons are treated to vaudevillian scenes by actors that are trained to make us laugh, cry, and hide under the bed! This is certainly an attraction that can’t be missed!
