For the Haunted House Chicago Review Team, this was our first trip to visit “The Twisted Crypt”, which is located in Rockford, Illinois.  Taking up residence in an old strip mall, this attraction was super easy to find.  As we made our way inside, our group took a picture that would later be available for purchase if you chose.  While standing in line, we were greeted by one of their line actors who had some witty banter back and forth between the groups, and kept finding a reason to always come back to ours.

As we waited to enter the attraction, a large projector in the waiting line area played horror movies, with dimly lit lighting, giving that eerie feeling of not knowing what you were about to enter and whom you may encounter.  When it was our turn to go in, the large doors opened as we shuffled into the small room and watched as the doors automatically closed behind us.

Not knowing what would happen next, we stood in front of a large scene in front of us that came alive and while we won’t give too much away, keeps your eyes on the TV screen & everything in front of you; it’s definitely an opening we’ve never seen done before!  The minds behind The Twisted Crypt definitely had their creative juices flowing when they came up with that opening scene!

We began our journey and encountered an actor by the name of Buttons.  Here, we were told about all the stops and people we would meet throughout the attraction. With clever and witty comments, we were definitely ready to see what was in store for us!

Making our way through many twists and turns, we came upon a theater where we were told to sit.  Here, we met a ventriloquist and his puppet.  Getting up close and personal to all the members of our group, this combo pair of actors did a great one-two punch.

Another memorable room was the circus area.  Here, we were told to play a game and if we could get a prize, we could keep our hands.  With some clever creativeness in this room, the actor taking charge of that room definitely made our group feel like we were never going to get out of there.

The Bottom Line: For our first visit here, we definitely enjoyed our time.  The creators behind this attraction have done a great job with their actors in training them and how to perfectly interact with their patrons.  Not to mention, an opening scene that we haven’t seen elsewhere!  If you haven’t made it out to The Twisted Crypt, we suggest that you do soon.
