The Twisted Crypt 2018
Rockford, IL

After our 2017 first-time visit to “The Twisted Crypt,” our team couldn’t wait to make our return! Located in an old strip mall in Rockford, Illinois, Twisted Crypt is celebrating their 6th year! Completely indoor and only boasting 10,000 square feet, the masterminds here are outstanding at space utilization, and making the tour feel bigger, longer, and better than ever!
As we waited to enter the attraction, a large projector in the waiting line area played horror movies, with dimly lit lighting, giving that eerie feeling of not knowing what you were about to enter and whom you may encounter. When it was our turn to go in, the large doors opened as we shuffled into the small room and watched as the doors automatically closed behind us.
Not knowing what would happen next, we stood in front of a large scene in front of us that came alive and while we won’t give too much away, keeps your eyes on the TV screen & everything in front of you; it’s definitely an opening we’ve never seen done before! The minds behind The Twisted Crypt definitely had their creative juices flowing when they came up with that opening scene!
From there, we met with a mystic/fortune teller. But, she did an entire theatrical/dance performance, without saying a word! The scene was beautiful eerie and our group stood there petrified until she finished with a bang! Bravo!
The tour continued with great mini-theatrical performances in every room. Rather than non-stop walking and 6-second scenes, patrons were stopped and the actors were given a chance to perform for a few minutes. This was a great format, and helped showcase the truly great acting staff they have here!
Another amazing performance was conducted by an actress named, “Piper.” Simulating kids playing in the bottom of a closet, we were told to sit down and play game. In tight quarters, she waited until our entire adult group was sitting on the floor, on our knees! She commanded the room and the scene with brilliance!
Our highlights included the jail cell and the marking/stamping on the forehead. We also enjoyed the heart transplant room with the doctor and nurse! Another great round of performances!
Monsters of Note: Piper, Piper, Piper: Bravo! We can’t wait to see your performance next season!
The Bottom Line: This is a fantastic experience that is different from most other attractions in the area. Eliminating the constant movement, presents patrons with additional time to build fear and appreciate actors’ performances. This is a fantastic crew who executes a great, solid performance and utilizes the space to its fullest potential. Thank you to Dale and the entire crew and can’t wait to return in 2019!
