The biggest question we always get is regarding how far we travel for haunted attractions. Now, like most of us, we will travel across the country if need be. But, for Haunted House Chicago, we limit our reviews to within 100 miles from Chicago, as per Google Maps. So, when we recommend that you go and check out this next attraction in Franklin, WI, people always are shocked and ask, “Isn’t that considered Milwaukee?” Yes, it is considered a suburb of Milwaukee, but it is only 88 miles north of Chicago. Lucky for us, that means it can continue to be a part of our Halloween adventures.

While other haunted attractions have creepy buildings or real haunted history, the Hills Has Eyes has hills and natural terrain. Built into a ski resort, Hills Has Eyes (HHE) has some of the BEST views anywhere! AND who couldn’t use a little fresh air?

To start your journey, we recommend you wearing a good sturdy shoe, as you will be going on a small hike up and down some small grade trails. To begin, you will need to take a small journey down the hill to enter into the central hub of it all: the Midway. Located in a natural valley, this is where THE party is at! Complete with a live DJ, great music, insanely large video screens, fire pits, drinks, food, and actors and actresses frolicking, the price of admission to get into this party is worth it! Northing says Halloween like the party here at Hills Has Eyes!

Of course, we would be remiss if we did not talk about our favorite part of the madness, “Dark Heart.” The actress here is a mainstay comprised of one-part haunt actress, one-part circus performer, and one-part freakshow! She is always amazing to watch, and even better to experience up close. Rumor has it that the actress who portrays Dark Heart is looking into developing a new character called, “Hazard,” so keep your eyes peeled!

After finally accepting that we had to leave the Midway to go into the attractions, we started on our journey to not one, not two, but FOUR haunted attractions. Each attraction is built into the sides of mountains and take guests through scenes and twisted trails into the dark woods.

The first event was: “Failed Escape.” While the name is the same as last year, the trail/path is definitely different. Here, we met shunned freaks who are living as locals within the trailer park, including Junkyard Ray! The path includes bridges and tighter walkways that kept guests watching their footing and backs! But, nothing could have prepared us for the ultimate ending that completed this leg of the journey!

The second event was: “Hunger Hallow.” Here we had a chance to meet mutant cannibal hillbillies including the butcher. During our journey we checked out camp crystal ridge and even went through a very dense freezer scene! But no trip here would be complete without an offering to the demons being summoned…

The third event brought us to the classic, “Carnivore.” The psycho circus filled with evil clowns who only want to be your friends. Want to stay and play a game? Yes please, as all of the classic circus attractions were back, but with a dark twist.

Our final attraction of the evening was “Dead End.” Here we encountered demonic doctors and sinister scientists trying to break us down and assess us for their experiments. Make sure you take your medicine or suffer the consequences of the final destination!

Monsters of Note: Dark heart

The Bottom Line: The Hills Has Eyes is truly an all-night, one-stop shop for Halloween and haunted fun! With 4 amazing attractions, this would be an easy recommendation. But, add in the central midway party, and this is a not just an attraction but a destination! Set your GPS to Franklin now and thank us later!
