Like the killer from all slasher movies, a good haunted house just won’t stay down! Yes ladies and gentlemen, Psychosis Haunted House has been resurrected!
Alive and well from the grounds of Sonny Acres Farm in West Chicago, IL, the original minds that brought you the original are back from a two-year retirement. Taking up residence across the first floor of one of the barns on the property, the maze master and company have teamed up for a new experiment in fear.
Sonny Acres Farm is a beautiful facility designed for all your fall needs and wants. Pumpkins, hot cider, roasted corn, rides, animals, and more! But for haunt fans, there now is a different reason to go: The Psychosis haunted house. We spotted the famous symbol/brand/logo from across the farm and knew the legend of Kingsfield was back! Arriving at the barn, the crew had set up a classic haunted house graveyard, complete with witty sayings and inside jokes on the tombstones.
As the scene was set, we entered the barn, we explored through a number of traditional scenes. Spaces were tight, dark, and spooky. But, we absolutely had some favorites including the doctor who helped us take our medicine. Trust us, just open wide and enjoy the ride… what a great performance! And to combo that, we got to experience the patient who “already took the medicine,” and had a chance to experience the results first-hand. His famous quote to us, “Do you know that stars are eyes watching us?”
After a few more zombies breaking out of their coffins, we escaped! But, just in time to board the haunted hayride. This was unexpected, so we were immediately excited! The wagon/hayrack was very well-constructed and comfortable. Scenes included the witches brewing in a cauldron, Joe’s Body Shop BBQ party serving only the freshest parts, and the great utilization of twists and turns. But, we have two parts that really stood out.
First, the use of live fire and cannons. This was awesome! Not only was it unexpected, but really helped drive the excitement up on the ride. But, what really got our hearts pumping was the wagon pulling into the middle of a zombie outbreak. On one side, a half-dozen zombies breaking through fences and attacking the wagon. And on the other side, a group of guards firing guns to try and protect us. Remember the ships battling in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride? This was just like this! 360-degree action!
The bottom line: Psychosis’ haunted barn and hayride made a great 1-2 punch to help get folks of all ages celebrate the spirit of Halloween. Our team found ourselves jumping, laughing, and most importantly: having fun the entire time! Bring the family and get ready to scream!
