Fun Fact: New for 2022 and ready to roll over the undead!
Bringing a haunted attraction back to the Kane County Fairgrounds, the crew at Haunted House Chicago was overly excited to hear that there was a brand-new concept coming to the area… something BIG! Now, we have been hunting zombies with paintballs before from a hay rack ride or trailer, but never even close to a school bus. But did we mention it is a school bus with 66” wheels?! Yes friends, this is no ordinary zombie killing trip. If we are going to be performing a proper Monster Purge, then we are going to need a monster truck!
Monster Purge is an all-new haunted adventure in which guests are armed with paintball guns, sitting 14’ above the ground, and take about 20 minutes to blast as many of the undead as they can possible can. On paper and in pictures, this looks fun and very enticing. But the moment the action starts, everything notches up about 100 levels, the adrenaline is pumping, and we found ourselves suddenly in the middle of a war! Alarms are going off, rock music is blaring, and zombies are attacking the bus from all angles! In this moment of kill or be killed, we joined with our fellow “purgers” to make sure to protect the bus and clear the landscape of any threats to humanity. Yippee Ki-Yay!
(Even writing this review the next day gets the blood pumping and makes us want to re-enlist and deploy again!)
Huge credit to the team on the bus that keeps the tour of duty flowing nicely, guns operating, guests safe, and exhilaration going with different dramatic points in the show. But the real stars are the actors and actresses in the field doing the dirty work of getting pummeled with hundreds of paintballs every minute! Even though they have armor and protective gear, we must guess that one or two shots find a vulnerable opening every now and then.
(Ok, yes, if you were wondering, headshots and double-taps are allowed AND encouraged. They are zombies, right?)
The Bottom Line: After getting the opportunity to get caught up in the action, we are now even more excited to have an amazing attraction like this in the Chicagoland area! Regardless of your age or fear level, everyone can be a big kid and enjoy a night of shooting some zombies. For duty and humanity!
