Insanity Haunted House
St. Charles, IL

Returning for its second year of fear is Insanity Haunted House. Tucked away inside the nearly abandoned Charlestown Mall in St. Charles, IL, this is straight out of a scene of “Dawn of the Dead.” Some may say that this mall is too vacant, but its desolate atmosphere is a perfect setting for a haunted attraction. Don’t believe us? Try walking those halls in the evening, its creepy!
As we entered the attraction, we waited in a heavy fogged waiting area, lit by black lights. Here, creatures roamed throughout and gave the rest of the patrons waiting to enter a great idea of what was to come. We actually appreciated the thick layer of fog, as it set-up for the entrance quite nicely!
Inside, the dark mind behind Insanity showed what a year in the off-season could do. Rooms and detail were increased, and actors were better trained than ever before. In fact, many rooms had two actors, and had developed “1-2 punch” attacks that showed teamwork development was certainly taking place.
One of our favorite rooms had to be one with two girls that couldn’t stand to have us leave and just wanted to play with us! (Ok, let’s not get too crazy here. Yes, a male is writing this, but this is actually a genuine acting comment.) The teamwork between these two girls was phenomenal! One was definitely the lead, but the way they worked the entire group, they left no stone unturned when it came to implanting fear into each of us!
Overall, this is a fun haunted attraction that elevates it one step further than your typical family attraction, while still being acceptable for you to bring the entire family! This has something for everyone, and should absolutely be among your considerations this season. (And next!)
The Bottom Line: With their first year under their belt, they were able to work a lot in the off-season and make some great changes. With even more time and ideas to work with, we expect this attraction to keep expanding and growing in the upcoming years! Watch out 2017!
