Fun Fact: Made famous by their “Stranger Things” exhibits in 2022!
To start off, we LOVE yard displays and home haunts and anything/anyone that celebrates our cumulative favorite holiday! One question we receive frequently is regarding if we visit/review home haunts and yard displays. The honest answer is: we would love to! But, the challenge is based on our design, there is simply no way to hit ALL of the offerings in every season. And if we can’t get everyone, we didn’t think it was fair to only do a select few. A few years ago, dedicated members of the Chicago Haunt Builders helped convince us that we should start including the home haunts that have walkthroughs, and we have been working to try and make that happen!
So, even though we don’t traditionally visit home haunts and yard displays, we made an exception. For the first time in our 24 seasons, we not only visited a yard haunt “on the clock,” but wanted to tell everyone about it!
There is no doubt you have heard of this place before. Whether you get your news on the major network TV channels, via internet articles, or on viral TikTok videos, there’s a really good chance you have heard of the “Stranger Things” house. Located between Plainfield and Joliet (Illinois), in the middle of a cul-de-sac, Max Mayfield flies high with hundreds of eyes to the skies!
Their formal name is, “Infested Oaks,” and the couple that has designed and assembled the attraction has worked over 1,500 hours into making this a free destination that families and fans of the show and Halloween can come to enjoy the spirit of the season. In addition to the levitating Max character, they have other features inspired by Stranger Things like Vecna’s throne, the Grandfather clock, Billy’s grave, a Demogorgon, and plenty of tendrils and vines all over the property and house! There are also some homages to other horror greats like Beetlejuice!
The Bottom Line: Seeing the pictures and videos are what brought you here. But, without a doubt, our team HAD to see it in person. AND because of that, we can say that the pictures and videos don’t do it justice. Sometimes, magic has to be experienced in person to be felt. This is one of those times. Come to bask in the warmth of Halloween love and pay homage to some amazing people who selflessly wanted to give back to all of us!
