In just its third year entertaining patrons in Chicago, is the nationally recognized, House of Torment in Morton Grove, Illinois.  Brought to you by Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group, who also has its sister attraction, 13th Floor in Melrose Park.   The tormented minds behind this attraction were ready to show what they could bring to the table and how well they can torture the patrons that enter their doors.

As we patiently waited to enter the attraction, it gave you the feeling of waiting on a CTA stop in downtown Chicago.  Complete with getting the opportunity to have your picture taken, to capture the moments of fear within your group.  We even had the pleasure of one of the Nightmare High cheerleaders be a part of our group!  Staying silent the entire time, it definitely added a creepy atmosphere to the waiting area.

The first attraction this year was named “The Swarm”.  Based off of the city being under heavy lockdown after a government experiment went wrong. Toxic sludge has been strewn across the city sights as crazed experimental patients bred into deadly insects and murderous vermin.

As we made our way through the intricately designed sets, darkness surrounded our group.  Weaving throughout scene after scene, actors waited patiently for that perfect attack.  What made it even better, the shadows that they hid in.  When we thought the attack would come from one angle, there they were striking from the other.  Very well done by those actors!

Some of our favorite scenes were a trip through the medical clinic, the attic, and even down to taking a ride on the L-train! Along with some great misdirected turns in one of the mazes, the actors in that area did a great job of separating our group!   Even down to the walls covered in a slimy substance, it really brought the overall story to life as we made our way through this attraction.

Coming up to the 2nd attraction, “Nightmare High: Fall Harvest”, which is based off of a horde of undead teenagers running the school and overtaking it.  More importantly, the students within these walls are hosting a fall dance, ready to find new victims to keep their evil school spirit alive.  Will you make it out alive? Or will you become the newest undead member of the Nightmare High Cheer Team?

This second attraction definitely brought its A-game this year.  The actors roaming within these halls of the school were relentless on their attacks and somehow managed to show up in multiple scenes, reminding you that they were still there!  It absolutely set the perfect tone that you were being followed, and quite possibly could be their next victim!

Some of the rooms that stood out to us this year was the photography room and the theater.  But the one that got us the best was the library.  The actors in here hid in the perfect spots and you never knew that they were there till it was too late!

The Bottom Line:  In just its second year, House of Torment has definitely made its presence known.  If you haven’t added them to your must-see list, you definitely should!
