Back for its second year of fear is Hayride of Horror at Dellwood Park. Created by the Lockport Park District in 2015, we were excited to see what this family attraction would come up with in the off-season. Being one of the only hayrides in our area, we were anxious to start our night here.
Now for those looking for a dark, dirty and intense attraction, then this is not for you. The atmosphere here is definitely family-driven, which is what makes this attraction so great. As we waited to board our hayride, we were told the story of the horror within the park that we would soon see for ourselves.
Making our way into the woods, we were followed by the twins, who were some creepy young girls that would linger just enough behind our group and wagon that sent shivers down your spine. As the wagon took off, we began our journey under the starlit sky. Set up similar to last year will small vignettes along the way, the actors waited ever so patiently to attack. This year, we were in for a treat when the path took us a different way. Definitely added to the mystery as to what was coming next!
One of our favorite scenes was that of the freak show circus. Filled with so many freaks from the contortionist to the bearded lady, actors and actresses waited for the perfect moment to attack our wagon. Other favorites included the zombie graveyard, which was filled with many actors that would come out of the fog, crawl out of the graves, and even roll down the rocky hills! With perfect timing to the way they walked and lingered behind our wagon ever so cautiously.
The Bottom Line: In just its second year, Hayride of Horror has definitely grown. While still giving families a smile on their face throughout, with just enough scare to whet your appetite. For those youngsters that are starting to get that love for Halloween as much as we do at Haunted House Chicago. Have no fear that this is the perfect attraction to start them off at!
