Heaps Haunted Corn Maze
Minooka, IL
Reviewed on: Saturday, October 3, 2015
Just about 20 miles West of Chicago lays a quaint little town of Minooka, IL. Here, spread out over 160 acres is Heaps Haunted Corn Maze. Set to be one of the only corn mazes we visit within our area during the season, it is definitely an attraction you don’t want to miss.
This year, our visit was on a rather chilly & windy evening, but that definitely set the tone for what’s ahead. Normally the moonlight helps guide our way, but this year, it was hidden behind the clouds, which was going to make our trek through the corn even more memorable. As we approached the almost 10 foot tall corn (yes, you read that correctly!), the screams we heard from within set the tone of what was lurking in the dark waiting for us.
As we waited outside the entrance, we met “Lucy”, who was sporting some lovely pajamas and what seemed to be a teddy bear with fangs placed over her face. This was such a creative type of mask and makeup that it would definitely be something you wouldn’t want to see under your bed!
Once we entered the corn, the lack of moonlight this year definitely played tricks with our eyes and minds. What we thought was something moving in one way, was actually perfectly laid out in that the attack would come from somewhere else! As we made our way through the corn, it felt as if we were transported to another galaxy, the way the silence within was just near perfect. Not to mention, the wind didn’t hold back the corn, and the swaying of it was almost on queue each and every time, setting up the perfect attack for the actor, and you’d never hear them coming!
Throughout the maze, we made our way through multiple vignettes, some of which included: a trip to see some rather funny and clever clowns, the doll girls, who definitely have a set of lungs on them with all the screaming they did, a trip to the Doctor’s office and even the hillbilly house where we met Carl, Amy & Scabs.
One other key feature we want to point out is the patience of the actors. We don’t want to give too much away, but make sure you check out the scarecrows along the way, you never know if they will be pointing you in the right direction or not!
The Bottom Line: This was another fantastic and fun filled night. If you haven’t had the opportunity to make it out to Heaps, you definitely need to! It’s a fun night for the whole family, and who doesn’t want to take a nice nightly stroll through the corn?
