Devil’s Krypt

Cicero, IL
Reviewed on: Thursday, October 29, 2015

For those that aren’t aware, Cicero, Illinois, is the first suburb west of Chicago. (Immediately accessible off of 290.) Located in the old Town Hall building, the “Devil’s Krypt” terrorizes  victims across 3 floors without a trace of an office or courtroom in sight. With 7-years of development and practice, the trek held within the walls has patrons running from ritual to summoning, to even a witch burning!

One of the huge highlights is the constant up and down. When we mentioned “trek” earlier, we weren’t kidding! This tour is designed to take you out of your comfort zone, and leave you begging for the exit.

But, we can’t avoid talking about the incredible scene work that was done to help disorientate you from any sense of place in the building. We truly had no idea if we were in the basement, top floor, or locked in the jail cells. (In fact, we had to ask house staff after where we were during certain parts of the tour!)

And wait, here’s another highlight: the use of props and animatronics. GREAT JOB! Animatronics were never meant to be the main focus point, and the staff here knows that. Designing them into the tour as a distraction, it sets up the attack for a human-attacker to finish the job quite nicely.

The Bottom Line:  The history here is incredible. If you are from the area, or want a truly unique experience that no one can offer, make sure the Devil’s Krypt is on your list to visit. If walls could talk, who could guess what they might say? Maybe if you don’t escape, you will have an eternity to find out!
