Abandoned Haunted House Complex

Mt. Pleasant, WI

Abandoned Haunted House Complex is located just over the Illinois border in the town of Mount Pleasant, WI. If you are concerned that you might miss it or drive right by, have no fear. Not only can they be seen from the highway, but the spotlight on the top of their building can be seen for miles around them!

Opened in 2012, Abandoned takes all of your senses and throws you into a full immersion between their two attractions, Ambush and Hysteria.  Throughout both of these attractions, guests receive a full assault in what can only be described as a sensory overload.

Filled with fog and perfectly placed lighting, the environment within is just a host of all things to take you out of your comfort level.  Because of the excellent path route and environment control, many parts of the tour leave you feeling alone, even though members of your group may be only a few feet away.

While lighting and special environment effects are incredibly important to setting the scene, a great soundtrack is absolutely necessary to complete the fantasy. But, Abandoned doesn’t waste their time with movie themes or the “Monster Mash.” No, the music here is a soundtrack that could be straight out of a movie! We found it not only to be an amazing compliment to the tour, but helped our mind escape even more into the nightmare.

A new part of the attraction this year was many portions making you go up and down.  With multiple sets of stairs and ramps, you are definitely in for a great workout. But, also kicking you completely out of any comfort zone you might have thought you had.

It should be noted that Abandoned does a great job with “transportation” in their attraction. If you have visited before, you know they have a not-to-be-missed ambulance scene, and a war-zone helicopter scene. But, added to this year’s tour? A CTA-inspired “L” train car right out of the heart of Chicago!

Since we are talking about detail, no turn is unturned! From floor to ceiling, every inch is covered. From scenes in which the ceiling is caving in, to fluorescent lighting falling from hospital rooms, this is a full 360-degree immersion into the hell.

The Bottom Line:  Next year, the creators behind Abandoned shared with us that they will be expanding their attraction and creating a haunted cornfield titled, “Stalkers”.  With all the hard work that the Abandoned staff puts into in the off-season each year, we expect nothing less for 2016!  But, don’t delay. This is a MUST SEE this and every year!
