Fear City

One of the attractions that have consistently made our Top 13 list is Fear City, located in Morton Grove, IL. They have been entertaining the Chicagoland area for 4 years now and during their off season; the minds behind this attraction were definitely busy as they created a brand new 2nd attraction for 2014.
We began our adventure on what was a very crazy and busy night for the crew. Not only was the place booming with wall to wall people, but they had the band “V is for Villains” playing in their waiting area, creating quite a powerful vibe! As we waited to enter Fear City, we watched as numerous actors roamed freely throughout, scaring the innocent victims (we mean patrons), that were eagerly waiting to enter the City.
As we made our way through, many residents came out to greet us and tell us of the horror we were about to come into contact with. Some of the most memorable scenes were the Doctor’s office, the hillbilly home and of course the L-train. As we weaved in and out of intricately designed sets, actors attacked from all different angles, while the shadows masked them so you didn’t even know they were there. With some great misdirected turns, we definitely got a few good scares from the actors lurking deep within the dark.
The set detail that they put into their attractions is beyond amazing. You really do feel like you are roaming the streets of Chicago at one point or another. They really bring the aspect of “real-life” to this attraction, and it definitely does not disappoint. They remain today to be one of the very best artistic detailed haunted attractions anywhere.
As we made our way to the 2nd attraction, “Our Lady of The Cursed”, a large door leading to the school was in front of us. Keeping us company during our wait was the school janitor, who had a little fun with us! This attraction, which is new for 2014, is based on the tortured and condemned souls that roam an abandoned all-girls school filled with evil, looking to find a pure soul and bring them to the dark side.
Folks, this is definitely an attraction that pushes the envelope, so if you are one that is very religious, this may push a few buttons. Put aside the religious ideas and this attraction is solid fun. With almost an entirely female staff, don’t think you aren’t going to get any less aggressive of a show. In fact, they actually give the team from the City scenes a run for their money! Their attacks are relentless, and mix in a healthy dose of witty and quick comebacks. The detail in this attraction is spot-on, and sent us whirling back to the land of the nuns through an abandoned parochial school. Who needs the flux capacitor?
The Bottom Line: If you haven’t had the chance to head over to Fear City, make sure that this year is one of them! This is definitely one of the top shows in the area, and they won’t disappoint. Blending movie-quality scenes with the unlimited-energy of an amazing team, make sure to plan a trip to the ‘City’ tonight to get your scream on!
