Evil Intentions has always been special to us in the Chicagoland haunt community because of its setting: an old, really haunted, decrepit building that has a dark and mysterious past as a coffin factory. There are not too many better locations you can ask for when it comes to setting the scene with real history. Although the masters of horror behind Evil Intentions have had to change locations within the building itself, and face various adversity and hurdles, Evil Intentions continues to remain its core of dark, ominous, dirty, and visceral.

Different than other attractions, there’s no party here. This is a place of death and sin, inhabited by a cult. So, they aren’t dancing; they are hiding in the shadows and watching your every move. The horror is real and there is nothing you can do to escape it. The actors know where they are and they use it well immersing you into the depths. They crawl, climb, lurk proving you are never safe. We even had the opportunity have this attraction as a part of the MHC Pre-Show Tour a few years ago, and haunters from around the country RAVED on the incredible setting and creep-factor before even walking in the door.

Using a consistent color palette of blacks, reds, and lots of gray, Evil Intentions makes you question your choices as you are submerged into their labyrinth. With monsters and creatures lurking, patrons have to watch their steps as they try to make it through alive! There is no relief from the evil within the building. This is where you are, and this is where you stay. Every room is set perfectly within their world and, whether you like it or not, you are now a part of it.

Some of our favorite scenes are the mannequin room, school house, nun room, church, cabin, and of course, a visit to the doctor. The EI crew plays with lighting and the pure sounds of the dark to round-out the immersion into a torture chamber for your soul! You’ll feel the need to hold your breath as you are a part of their world now.

The Bottom Line: This was an emotional tour because this is the final year that Evil Intentions will be inhabiting the Elgin Casket Factory. As one of our top questions this season: Yes, they are coming back, but in a brand new location just west of Elgin. (We can’t release the details until given permission from their ownership.) While Evil Intentions will rebuild, create, and build another amazing show going forward, this marks the end of a great chapter in one of the creepiest buildings anywhere. It has truly been a privilege and honor to be able to walk through their halls, and feel all the blood, sweat, and tears that went into making this attraction the iconic that it is.
