For 17 years, Evil Intentions Haunted House has been taking up residence in the Chicagoland market, with its permanent home in Elgin, Illinois for the last 14 of those years. One thing that makes this attraction unique is that it is truly historic. We don’t mean this lightly; people have reportedly died here in the past and it really is inside the former Elgin Casket Company. (Talk about a perfect setting!) If that doesn’t send shivers up your spine and give you the heebie-jeebies, then we don’t know what will!

Being a constant place holder on our Top 13 list, as well as being named as Haunted House Chicago’s Best Haunted Attraction of the Year in 2021 (as well as 2017), they have made their name well-known across the industry. For their 4^th season in the new portion of the building, which they took residence in 2019, Evil Intentions had time to dream more in the off-season and re-create more nightmares within these walls.

Before even entering the building, you are thrown into the madness in the entire area surrounding the attraction. Actors are roaming and ready to attack, with the vision of the dark, ominous factory in the distance. Everything lines up just enough to wet your whistle for the horror you are about to experience inside once you enter their walls.

As we entered the attraction, one thing that always gets our blood moving is the Evil Intentions waiting area. The room fully immerses you into its evil and darkness. Add in the perfectly lit (or not lit) room, chain link fencing, and actors everywhere and you have a recipe for what the evening has in-store for you. Another unique item in this space is a rolling coffin conveyor belt, fully equipped with coffins too! From crawling on the ground, scaling the walls, and even climbing across the tops of the fences, no corner is left safe from the monsters within. This is truly a 360-degree experience!

Once we entered the attraction through the coffins, we were whisked away to the freight elevator, ready to take us into the depths below. Another aspect of this attraction is that patrons must use multiple flights of stairs, which means, this attraction is built across multiple floors – talk about wonderful use of original building design! More levels of fear? Yes please!

Continuing our journey, our group experienced many classic scenes, including a visit with the monks, partaking in a Satanic ritual with a real organ playing, and a perfectly fogged cemetery filled with grave keepers. But the room we dread the most may be, the hooded mannequin room. With multiple hooded figures strewn throughout the room, you just don’t know who is real and which shadows are playing with your mind. With the perfect lighting housed within, this is bound to send shivers down your spine.

From a trip to see the dentist, all the way to the foreshadowed operating room, and to the nurse’s office within the school, be careful, you may just end up like Brock and turned into the perfect patient! Adding humor into the darkness, made us feel as if we were never going to escape the madness. Plus, we can never forget a quick trip to their famous casket maze, but be careful, you may have your group get split up like we did! Careful which path you take, you never know where you will end up!

Just when you think that your journey through this attraction is over, Evil Intentions throws you right back into the chaos. Each actor and actress within deliver incredible performances! They are relentless, forceful, work as a complete ensemble, and overall do an outstanding job! From the moment your group enters each area, until you leave, their madness is in full force and coming for you!

The Bottom Line: If you haven’t had the opportunity to experience this legendary haunted attraction and are looking for dark, dirty and actually haunted, then look no further than Evil Intentions. There are few places that will send real fear through your spine, and this is one of them. We were honored to have them featured on the 2022 Midwest Haunters Convention tour.
