Friday the 13th!
Aside from Halloween, Friday the 13th may be the next most-celebrated holiday for haunters. But, why? What inspired legions of folks to suffer from triskaidekaphobia and fueled a nearly 40-year old slasher franchise? Some say the history is rooted to the time of the last supper, and some say the middle ages, but the most popular origin story seems to be surrounding the attack of some Knights Templar on October 13, 1307.
While most of us spend effort avoiding walking under ladders and wishing we could attend Camp Crystal Lake, the origin still seems a big foggy. But, want to know what isn’t unclear? All of the amazing activities that are happening TONIGHT to start off the Haunting season!
First, Mother Nature is certainly doing her share of decorating as we will have a Full Moon/Harvest Moon. This is the first such occurrence on a Friday the 13th since October 13, 2000. AND the next one isn’t scheduled until Friday, August 13, 2049! We are told that the best time for viewing will be around 11:30pm.
A great way to make sure you don’t miss the viewing of this amazing full moon is to visit one of the FOUR haunted attractions opening tonight, Friday, September 13, 2019:
- 13th Floor Haunted House in Melrose Park, Illinois
- Basement of the Dead Haunted House in Aurora, Illinois
- Massacre Haunted House in Montgomery, Illinois
- Niles Haunted Scream Park in Niles, Michigan
Just in case you can’t get out until Saturday, September 14, 2019, here are your options:
- DEAD Rising Haunted House in Crestwood, Illinois (Special Adult 18+ MESSY Event)
- Niles Haunted Scream Park in Niles, Michigan
- Six Flags Great America Fright Fest in Gurnee, Illinois
And of course, there is Raven’s Grin Inn in Mount Carroll, Illinois, which is open year-round!
Now, if you are looking for something slightly different… AND want to hang out with some of the Haunted House Chicago crew, join us at The Haunting: An Interactive Halloween Experience in Vernon Hills, Illinois. Here there are no scares; just a collection of all-things-Halloween to captivate your senses and start off the haunting season with a flash!
