Lombard Jaycees Haunted House Is Now Lombard Haunted House
Lombard, IL – September 17th, 2014 – Lombard will be kicking off their 44th year for their annual Haunted House on Friday, October 10th. The theme for this year is Jack and Jill…Kill Kill Kill…A Collection of Nursery Crimes. The thought process behind the theme for this year is to put a nightmarish twist on some very familiar nursery rhymes. Which rhymes will get the nightmarish twist? The only way to find out is to come check it out!
The location for 2014 is Yorktown Shopping Center, this marks the third year in a row Lombard calls Yorktown home for their Haunted House, however, the location within the shopping center has changed they will now be located at 20 Convenience Center which is the strip mall between McDonald’s and Target and across from JC Penny and Carson Pirie Scott. Construction is well underway for this year and there is still plenty of time to get involved as volunteers are needed frequently to help build, haunt, sell tickets, spread the word and tear down. The Haunted House is an important fundraiser as it brings in revenue to purchase food baskets at Thanksgiving and Christmas as well as purchase presents for children at Christmas for families in need in the York Township area.
A few of the special events scheduled for this year are the FREE Kiddie Matinee and Woeful Wednesday. The Kiddie Matinee will be held on Saturday, October 25th from Noon to 3pm. Lights will be on and kids can trick-or-treat their way through the house. Although this event is free, a donation of a non-perishable food item will be greatly appreciated. Woeful Wednesday will be held on Wednesday, October 29th. This special event is named after the nursery rhyme Monday’s Child and is one night only. This night is not for the ordinary visitor, all of the actors will be roaming free throughout the house and the experience will be more intense than usual. Admission for Woeful Wednesday is $20 and the proceeds from this night will be split between the Haunted House and an Alzheimer’s Foundation that will be determined at a later date in the name of Marlyn Meyer, a former Village of Lombard Trustee, as well as former Lombard Man of the Year and Senior of the Year for Lombard who recently passed away. Also, there will be an ongoing coat and toy drive each night the Haunted House is open, everything donated will be given to families in need in the local community, feel free to drop anything off during hours of operation.
